"The world is a stage" - this is how GVL advertises and at the same time makes it clear who it is there for: performing artists, producers and event organizers. This makes the society particularly interesting and important for Actors, speakers, directors and musicians. By viewing the world as a stage from which artistic productions are broadcast, the Gesellschaft zur Verwertung von Leistungsschutzrechten, GVL for short, takes care of the so-called secondary exploitation rights for broadcasts. Until March 31, 2017, all productions from the years 2010-2012 can still be registered and remunerated. TV commercials can now also be registered and since February 1, 2017, Actors can also register cinema and TV documentaries! What exactly does this mean?If you belong to an artistic group represented by GVL, you can become a member free of charge and register all contributions to broadcast productions. GVL collects the statutory remuneration claims on the basis of the tariffs it has set and the contracts it has concluded and distributes them to its members. A large number of artistic groups are entitled to remuneration: Conductors, instrumentalists and musicians (soloists, band musicians, orchestral players and studio musicians), artistic producers, speakers and narrators, video clip directors and video clip producers, solo and choral singers, Actors, stuntmen and stunt players, dubbing actors and dubbing actors, dancers, sound recording producers and labels, event organizers as well as word and dubbing directors."Since 1959, we have been representing artists, producers and event organizers in the protection of their ancillary copyrights and are committed to ensuring that they receive the income they are entitled to from the exploitation of their performances. We act as an intermediary between rights holders and rights users. Without GVL as a collecting society, radio and television broadcasters as well as any restaurant or discotheque wishing to use music or audiovisual productions would have to come to a specific agreement with the artists involved in a production and the corresponding producers as to whether they are allowed to use this production. Conversely, each rightholder would have to ensure that they receive their remuneration. Instead, we at GVL ensure that there is a so-called "one-stop store" for both sides - both rights holders and rights users. We license the world repertoire to the rights users and receive income in return, which we distribute to the rights holders. "How do the distributions work?Depending on the type of contribution, the duration of the broadcast, the size of the broadcaster and the type of production, the remuneration is calculated according to a precise key, which is redefined each year by the Advisory Board. For example, participation in productions of less than 40 minutes, such as a series, is remunerated at a flat rate. In the case of feature films, the key is again based on the days of shooting or the takes of the dubbing actors. For most types of productions, GVL also applies a sliding scale of remuneration depending on the number of repetitions. For the first broadcast and the following three broadcasts, 100% of the rate is usually paid, 50% for the next six broadcasts and 10% from the tenth broadcast onwards. Advertising and jingles are exempt from the repeat staggering and are paid out once a year, usually in September of the following year. All registrations for the previous year must be made by March 31 of the following year. In short: the reports for 2016 must be submitted by the end of March 2017. And for 2010-2012 too!How do I register a production? Before you can register productions, you must first register with GVL. To do this, you can download the "Rights administration agreement for performing artists" from the homepage, fill it out, sign it and send it to GVL. With the rights administration agreement, you also register for the online portal www.artsys.gvl.de and automatically receive your access data and personal contract number. You can then enter the productions on the portal. The notification is production-oriented, i.e. the detailed view asks for the broadcast title, exact date and broadcaster. The system determines any repeats independently. As the TV advertising section has just been created, it is possible that not all companies are registered yet. If an advertisement cannot be registered, please contact GVL and they will check it.
It`s the final countdown - the end of March is soon!
