The wave

With the premiere of "Die Welle", Aurel Klug not only shows that he can breathe a "wide range of emotions" (General-Anzeiger) into his lead role of David, but also played a key role in the development and reworking of Morton Rhue's novel. As the subject matter has lost none of its topicality, it was quickly relocated to the here and now. The evening at the Junges Theater Bonn documents the value of a living culture of remembrance.

"In history class, teacher Ben Ross shows a movie about the Second World War and the Holocaust. The young people react very differently to the brutal images from the concentration camps. Some are deeply disturbed by it, others are rather annoyed. They consider the subject to be long gone and are certain that something like the Nazi regime and the Holocaust would no longer be possible today. So Ben Ross decides to carry out an experiment at the school to show the kids how wrong they are." (JTB)

JTB director Moritz Seibert's production impressively shows how the project gets out of hand - and not only puts relationships and friendships to the test, but also raises the questions: Can this happen to us again? And how can we prevent it?
