Life-affirming film adaptation based on a novel by Lily BrettShooting for the TV movie "Chuzpe" (AT) has begun in Berlin. The film adaptation - loosely based on motifs from the novel "Chutzpah" by the successful Australian-American author Lily Brett - tells the humorous story of the new beginning of the sprightly Australian Edek Rotwachs (Dieter Hallervorden) in Germany - and why meatballs mean a piece of home.Edek (Dieter Hallervorden) dares to start a new life. After more than six decades in Australia, he moves to Berlin. As a Holocaust survivor, he and his wife had found a home in Melbourne. Daughter Ruth (Anja Kling), however, wants her father to be close by. But the modern metropolis is alien to Edek. And Ruth also constricts the over 80-year-old with excessive care. Although his son-in-law Georg (Hans-Jochen Wagner) and grandson Zacharias (Tilmann Pörzgen) also try to look after him, the sprightly widower feels alone and superfluous. When Edek's attempts to get involved in Ruth's communications agency culminate in chaos, he recalls a travel acquaintance. A year earlier, he had met the fun-loving Zofia (Franziska Troegner) and her friend Valentina (Natalia Bobyleva) in Marseille. Still in Australia, he hoped for a reunion. With the help of his grandson and the internet, Edek sets off in search of the likeable Polish girls. Having found them, he lets Zofia and Valentina into his apartment, styled by Ruth, as flatmates - bringing a lot of fun and joie de vivre into his life. In addition to Zofia's buxom physical assets, it is her Polish meatballs that make Edek go into raptures. Much to the dismay of Ruth, who had imagined a quiet retirement for her father. When the trio flirt with the idea of opening a meatball restaurant, Ruth is completely stunned. But the three of them enthusiastically pursue their business idea and rent a vacant store - in a bad neighborhood, away from any public traffic ...Also starring: Barbara Philipp, Claudia Eisinger, Renate Serwotke, Florentine Lahme and others.
